where you can have the opportunity to see big events and
performances.
Earls Court and Olympia Exhibitions History
Earls Court and Olympia were run independently of each
other until 1974 when they were combined under the common
ownership of Sterling Guarantee Trust. When Sterling Guarantee
Trust merged with P&O in 1985, Earls Court and Olympia became
subsidiaries of the Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation
Company.
The latest chapter of Earls Court and Olympia's history
began in September 1999 when a consortium of Candover Investments
and The Morris Family bought Earls Court and Olympia Group
from P&O for £183m. Under the direction of Andrew Morris,
Earls Court and Olympia's new chief executive, a range of
new initiatives have been introduced.
These initiatives have seen the company become more entrepreneurial
in style with a flatter management structure, where the
voice of every employee is heard.
Inside the venues, the Venue Improvement Programme has
been accelerated and a new retail catering strategy has
seen high-street brands such as Pret A Manager, Soup Opera
and Costa Coffee opening outlets.
Earls Court Olympia Exhibitions Venue
Earls Court and Olympia have been the stage for thousands
of breathtaking events since the Grand Hall opened in 1886.
Today, the venues are renowned as the home of many of the
UK's finest trade and consumer shows and are immediately
linked with names such as the Daily Mail Ideal Home Show,
Hotelympia, Confex, The Cosmopolitan Show, Ski and Snowboard
Show, and The Olympia International Show Jumping Championships.
But to talk about Earls Court and Olympia simply as exhibition
venues does not do them justice - conferences, conventions,
pop concerts, award dinners, sporting events and corporate
events are all at home in London's leading venues. The Grand
Hall's initial and enduring popularity made it plainly obvious
that more space was required at Olympia and in 1923 the
New Hall, later renamed the National Hall, and was added.
Six years later saw the opening of the Empire Hall, which
was later renamed Olympia Two. Olympia's exhibition space
was completed in 1959, when the West Hall, an extension
of the Grand Hall was added.
In 1991, Earls Court One was joined by Earls Court Two,
which offered 17,000sqm of column-free space beneath Europe's
biggest unsupported roof-span.
Earls Court and Olympia's two conference centres were opened
in 1987 at Olympia's and 1993 at Earls Court.
