Hyde Park
The Georgian House Hotel is
a great place to stay if you are planning to visit Hyde
Park. This lovely park is based in central
London and is easy to reach walking, by bus or underground.
Hyde Park is the most prominent and famous park in the whole
UK. About four centuries ago, Hyde Park was first opened
to the public having previous being used as a hunting ground
for King Henry VIII.
Over the years, Hyde Park has developed a tradition of hosting
both local and national events, celebrations and performances.
The most famous features on the Park are the Serpentine,
a lake much used for boating and swimming, and Rotten Row,
the world famous riding track, which was the first public
road to be lit at night in this country.
There are almost four miles of horse rides as well as cycle
and roller-skating routes. There are also areas planted
and managed as meadowland to encourage a wide range of insect
life and the ecological chains they support. There is an
education centre used by schools from all over London.
Hyde Park is also one of the best places in London for jogging,
combining easy access with world famous views. On Sundays,
at Speakers Corner, London most vocal orators share their
opinions with the world.
Being 360 acres in size it can take you a while to cross
it. In summer time there is an option of renting a small
boat and gently paddling in the lake, having a refreshing
drink or maybe fishing in certain allocated places.
Kensington Palace can be found in Kensington Gardens.
After the death of Princess Diane thousands of people came
just to lay the flowers and leave cards in Hyde Park.
