The UEFA Champions League and How it Works
Sometimes shortened to Champions League or, in the past, the European Cup, is an association football cup competition that takes place every year between the top football clubs in Europe. This competition is organised by UEFA since 1955 and is considered to be the most prestigious football club competition in the world.
The tournament consists of several different stages:
- Beginning in mid-July, there are three knock-out qualifying rounds and a play-off round.
- The ten winning teams then join 22 seeded tems in the group stage where there are eight groups each with four teams in.
- The eight group winners and the eight runners-up enter the final knock-out stage.
- The winners play in the Champions League Final in May.
The winner of this tournament then qualifies for the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.
