The Mayor's Thames Festival transforms the River Thames and its surrounding parks and open spaces between Westminster Bridge and Tower Bridge annually with a rich programme of family oriented free outdoor events!
The Mayor's Thames Festival takes place on and around the River Thames for the whole weekend between Westminster and Tower Bridge. It starts at around Noon and is usually in September.
The many festivities and events include:
- A Riverside Bazaar that brings the carnival atmosphere to the Mayor's Thames Festival with a funfair, food and craft market and attractions.
- Night market
- Street theatre
- Jaunts on the river
- Night Carnival with music, lights and costumes
Lantern Procession at the Mayor's Thames Festival
The beautiful riverside Lantern Procession runs along Victoria Embankment, across Blackfriars Bridge and west along Upper Ground to the Royal National Theatre and is the defining feature of The Mayor's Thames Festival. Under the guidance of international creators of art, Londoners create giant figures, lanterns and floats to take part in this event on the final night of the festival. The event then ends with a breathtaking fireworks display.
Around 350 000 people are expected to attend the Mayor's Thames Festival this year, make sure that you book accommodation early for this event!
