London Tipping

How does tipping work, and how much should you tip in London.

In some restaurants service is already included in the bill, so there is no need to leave an extra tip. If service is included, then it will be marked on the bill. In most restaurants it is not the case and a tip would normally be about 10% of the bill.

The percentage rate is the same for cab drivers.

It is common to leave a tip in the room for the cleaning staff at the end of a stay. This would typically be left over loose change. Similarly, guests often leave a tip for the breakfast staff at the end of their stay, or sometimes they might leave a tip for the staff team as a whole, if they have been very pleased with the service. Tips in hotels are entirely discretionary, and there is no general rule, as there is for tipping in restaurants.
