The Fashion and Textile Museum in London is housed in a spectacular pink and orange building in Bermondsey, designed by the Mexican architect Ricardo Legorreta.
The Museum opened in spring 2003, with a spectacular exhibition called My Favourite Dress. This will showcase the personal favourite creations of 60 of the worlds most influential and respected designers, including visionaries such as John Galliano, Alexander McQueen, Donatella Versace, Oscar de la Renta, Christian Lacroix and many more. Each designer will also provide the very personal reasons behind their choice, giving a rare insight into the emotions of creativity.
The Fashion and Textile Museum has been founded by world-renowned textile designer, Zandra Rhodes CBE. The Museum is housed within a spectacular pink and orange modernist building, designed by AIA award winning architect Ricardo Legoretta. The Fashion and Textile Museum is the architect first building in Europe and has already attracted wide acclaim as an architectural landmark of London.
It's located on Bermondsey Street, in the Pool of London, in the London Borough of Southwark. The area has enjoyed a considerable renaissance over the past few years and is now recognised for its unique architecture and visitor attractions. The popular Tate Modern, Shakespeare Globe and Design Museum are all within fifteen minutes walking distance from the Fashion and Textile Museum, whilst the immediate area boasts the Delfina gallery and a rich history of antique dealers and leather merchants.
The education division at the Fashion and Textile Museum promotes life-long learning through the arts by making the museum and its collection accessible to the community. The Fashion and Textile Museum education mission aims to celebrate the innovative talent within the fashion industries and to Stimulate, Encourage and Inspire the study of contemporary fashion and textile design.
