Moving around London
A one-day travelcard lets you use the
underground, buses and British rail from 9.30am until about
midnight as often as required. London is divided into six
zones and the fares paid differ according to which zone
you are travelling in. Most of the tourist attractions are
in zones 1 and 2 so a travelcard just for two zones should
be sufficient. It costs £4.10 for an adult and £2.00
for a child (5-15 years).
A single journey by bus is cheaper and
better for sightseeing than the underground, although it
may take longer.
During weekends special weekend travelcards
may be obtained before 9.30am. These save you money as they
are valid for Saturday and Sunday, and cost £5.80
adult and £3.00 child.
If a taxi is necessary, then it is cheaper
to get a black cab on the street than to call a mini cab.
However for long distance trips outside London or to the
airport, the mini cabs are cheaper. These can be booked
by our receptionists. The charge to Heathrow should not
be more than £40, to Gatwick £50 maximum. www.londontransport.co.uk
