Tate Britain

The Tate Modern

Also opened in 2000, the Tate Modern has been designed to house modern art from 1900 to today. It was originally built as Bankside Power Station, designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, who also designed the famous red telephone box. The conversion has been designed by Swiss architects, Herzog and de Mervron. The modern glass "light beam" down the centre of the building houses a rooftop café with superb views over London. The gallery displays major works of artists such as Dali, Picasso, and Matisse as well as more contemporary artists.

Tate Modern Information Line 020 7887 8000 open Sunday to Thursday 10am to 6pm, Friday and Saturday 10am to 10pm closed 24-26 December no entry fee, donations only. Nearest underground stations Southwark and Blackfriars, 10 minutes from the hotel. www.tate.org.uk
