Georgian House Hotel Frequently Asked Questions

When is the hotel reception open and what are the check in/check out times?

Reception is open 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year. The rooms are cleaned and ready for check in by 1.30pm, although sometimes they might be ready earlier. Check out time is 10.30am.

Can I leave my luggage at the hotel if I arrive early in the morning before my room is ready?

Yes, you are welcome to store your luggage with us on the day of arrival, and also on the day of departure after check out. We can also make arrangements for those wishing to store luggage for longer periods, although there is a charge for this.

Can I reclaim the VAT on my accommodation?

Yes, but only if you are traveling from outside the EU, and are traveling on business. Refunds are not made for visitors traveling for pleasure. To reclaim the VAT on your accommodation you will need to complete a special VAT Overseas Repayment form which is available from HM Customs and Excise, VAT Overseas Repayments Unit, Custom House, PO Box 34, Londonderry, BT48 7AE, Northern Ireland. You will also need to show a certificate from your own country showing the registration details of your business, and your invoices made out to the same company. You cannot reclaim VAT on accommodation for business entertainment and hospitality. For further details of who can claim and how please click here link to VAT page.

What about getting the VAT back on goods I purchase during my stay in London?

You can reclaim the VAT on goods purchased in the UK if you are not an EU resident ( there are a few exceptions such as cars, boats and bullion). You need to buy the goods from any shop operating the VAT Retail Export Scheme, where you will need to prove that you are not an EU resident by showing your passport, and then completing a refund form. This form must be presented to Customs before checking in your baggage. The refund will then be sent to you according to the process agreed with the retailer. To find out more click here.

Does the hotel have a lift?

No, we are not allowed to install a lift by listed period building restrictions and some of our rooms are on the 4th floor. If you struggle with stairs or have a lot of heavy luggage please let us know at the time of booking so that we can reserve a room for you on the ground or lower floors.

Does the hotel have facilities for guests with special mobility or communication needs?

At present the hotel caters for guests with visual or hearing impairments. The hotel was built in 1851 and has a lot of steps. However, work on a ground floor room with facilities for guests with special mobility requirements is due to begin in January 2005, and ramps will be available for wheelchair users.

What about the security in the hotel?

The hotel has CCTV and 24 hour monitoring at reception. There are also personal safe boxes in every room, and high security locks on the room doors. The hotel is situated in a quiet residential area.

In which currencies do you accept payment?

The hotel accepts cash payment in Sterling, US Dollars and Euros. Cheques and travellers cheques can only be accepted in Sterling. Payments can be made with credit card at no additional cost. Please note that we do not accept American Express or Diners Cards.
