Our heritage at the Georgian House Hotel
The Georgian House Hotel was built as a private house in 1851 by William Chinnery Mitchell. The current family owners are his direct descendants, and still enjoy living and working in this beautiful area to this day.
William Chinnery Mitchell worked with Cubitt to design Pimlico.
Nowadays Pimlico has become one of the most desirable areas in London, for people from every background. People are attracted to the area because of the central location and excellent transport network, and the historic and beautiful streets and squares. Past famous figures who made Pimlico their home include Sir Winston Churchill, Aubrey Beardsley and Laura Ashley.
The Georgian House Hotel was established in 1950 and now occupies three adjoining houses in St George's Drive, a stately and elegant street, and one smaller house in quiet and pretty Cambridge Street, called The Bower House.
The Bower House was also built by William Chinnery Mitchell and is stunningly decorated in keeping with the gorgeous original features of the building. It has a lovely blue stained glass window in the hall, some charming fire places, and an enchanting mural on the top floor. The two buildings share many of the same architectural details; the signature of William Chinnery Mitchell.
The Georgian House Hotel has a very interesting history and due to its age, has seen its share ghostly presence. For those that are thinking of enjoying a special night at our London haunted hotel ...
Georgian House Hotel today is run by the same family...
Today the hotel is run by the great great granddaughter of William Chinnery Mitchell, Serena von der Heyde: "Our policy is to provide a warm, helpful service; clean, comfortable and attractive rooms; and a top quality English breakfast."
