Stella Artois at Queen's Tennis
The Stella Artois Queens Club Championship tournament will be held this year on 9th to 15th June 2008. The Artois Championships have long been regarded as one of the top ten tennis events in the world. The tournament is held annually and is only for male tennis players. It is part of the ATP Tour International Series tennis tournament, and although it is not a grand slam event, it is always attended by many world class top players.
In recent years the Stella Artois at Queen's Tennis tournament has seen the likes of Andy Roddick, Lleyton Hewitt, Pete Sampras and Boris Becker all win the tournament. The Stella Artois Championships are always held in the run up to the Wimbledon championships. It is seen by the tennis players as an opportunity to practice for the grass season as it is usually held after the French Open as they players adapt from clay to grass.
Tickets for Stella Artois Queens Club Tennis
The main courts at the Stella Artois Queens Tennis Club are centre court and court 1. Tickets for these courts sell out early, but ground admission allowing visitors to access to courts 2 – 9 are generally more readily available.
The tournament organisers leave an allocation of court 1 tickets and half of all ground admissions for sale to those that queue each day at the gates. The queues are not usually as long as those of the Wimbledon Championships.
Location of the Stella Artois Championships
The championships are held on the grass courts at the Queens Club in West Kensington London. The Queens Club is a private club located on Palliser Road, London W14 9EG. It is situated 150 metres south of Cromwell Road and is equidistant between West Kensington and Hammersmith. It is easily accessible by tube and bus.
The Queen’s Club was established in 1886 and was named after Queen Victoria. It was the first multipurpose sports complex ever to be built anywhere in the world and is considered as on of the premier Lawn Tennis and Racquets clubs in the world.
Changes at the Stella Artois Queens Club Championships
For over 30 years the brand Stella Artois has been synonymous with the Queens Club as the main sponsors for the prestigious tennis event. However the Lawn Tennis Association and the producers of Stella Artois have recently announced an end to the partnership.
It is said that the decision to end the successful 30 year partnership was taken by mutual consent, and is a move to boost the income into British tennis by attracting a variety of sponsors to support a wider range of activities.
So this year’s 2008 Queens Club event looks to be the last to carry the Stella Artois name.
