Lloyd Webber's musical Cats, which has worldwide box office sales of around $2 billion, is the second most successful theatre production.

The musical Phantom of the Opera opened at Her Majesty's Theatre on 9 October 1986 and since then it has been shown in 110 cities in 20 countries to over 70 million people - grossing over £1.6 billion. The musical has won over 50 major theatre awards, including seven Tony's on Broadway and three Olivier Awards in the West End including for 'Best Musical' and, at the 2002 Awards, the 'Audience Award for Most Popular Show'

The Story of the Phantom of the Opera

The Phantom of the Opera is adapted from Gaston Leroux's novel written in 1911 of the same name. Set in 1870 Paris, this is a love story between a disfigured musical genius and his young protege. The Phantom trains his protege - Christine to become the star of the operas shown within the opera house, eventually falling in love with her. His jealosy knows no bounds with the arrival of his protege's childhood sweetheart.
